To give you the best possible study experience Skippers Online draw on the combined knowledge and experience of a team of senior Instructors to develop the Skipper Online RYA theory courses. These go beyond the RYA syllabus to teach you how to skipper a vessel safely and efficiently — not just what you need to pass the exams.

A comprehensive introduction to chartwork, navigation, meteorology and the basics of seamanship
The RYA Day Skipper online theory course is ideal for inexperienced and aspiring skippers.
The Day Skipper course equips you with sufficient knowledge to navigate safely around familiar waters by day plus a knowledge of lights to introduce you to night cruising.
Developments in technology and electronic navigation aids now available on most cruising boats is also included.
Invaluable if you are considering taking the RYA Day Skipper practical course and for learning how to start making informed decisions on board.

OFFSHORE RYA YACHTMASTER
Online Theory Course
A challenging course which stretches you but backed up with excellent coaching and instructor support.
Advanced training for more experienced skippers to navigate safely on coastal and offshore passages
The RYA Yachtmaster online theory course takes your theory knowledge to the standard required for the Yachtmaster Coastal and Yachtmaster Offshore practical exams.
This course advances your skills as a skipper of a yacht or motor boat, with an emphasis on navigation and passage planning for more complex coastal or offshore passages by day and night
Includes some time for the revision of Day Skipper subjects then moves on to cover a greater depth of knowledge and more advanced skills in navigation, pilotage & meteorology.
Successfully gaining your RYA Yachtmaster theory certificate will enable you to confidently work towards your Yachtmaster Coastal or Yachtmaster Offshore practical qualification.

RYA/MCA Yachtmaster Ocean theory
Teaches advanced techniques to those aspiring to blue water cruising and is ideal for holders of the Yachtmaster Offshore certificate who are preparing for their first ocean passage, and for commercial Skippers or Mates planning on operating more than 150nm from a safe haven.
This course will introduce you to the principles of astro navigation, the practical use of the sextant, the measurement of time, position fixing by the sun and stars, compass checking and great circle sailing.
You’ll also study the concepts of worldwide meteorology, including tropical revolving storms, and passage planning for ocean voyaging.
Assumed knowledge- Yachtmaster level.
Minimum duration- 40 hours study is specified by the RYA.
Ability after course- Theory knowledge to undertake an ocean passage.​
