Sunday 26th July- Day 30

Cosy bed socks to remind me of home.

Another good 24 hours.

We covered 72 nautical miles, which we’re really pleased with. After weeks of battling headwinds and spending far too much time on the parachute anchor, it finally feels like we’re knocking the miles down and making proper progress towards home.

Every good day like this gives us another little boost.

The forecast over the next few days is still looking encouraging from a wind perspective, so hopefully we can keep this momentum going.

Now, if someone could just sort the weather…

We keep hearing about this UK heatwave, and I have to admit we’re both looking forward to it!

Out here it’s been another 24 hours of…

Cloud.

Fog.

Grey.

Repeat.

It’s amazing how draining a lack of sunshine can be. Even with all our silly jokes, ridiculous videos and constant attempts to entertain ourselves, the endless greyness is starting to wear me down.

I just need a bit of brightness.

The next few days still don’t look particularly promising on the sunshine front, but I’ll happily settle for the helpful winds if that’s all the Atlantic is offering.

Physically, we’re definitely feeling this crossing now.

Our backs are permanently sore, our hands are stiff from gripping the oars day after day, and every movement reminds us we’ve been living on a rowing boat for over a month.

It’s funny how your priorities change.

A luxury hotel?

No thanks.

Right now I’d happily settle for a long, hot shower, clean clothes and one uninterrupted night’s sleep in a proper bed.

In fact, home must be on my mind because I had one of the strangest dreams last night.

For some reason, every single room in my house had been turned into a bedroom.

The kitchen…

A bedroom.

The lounge…

Another bedroom.

Even rooms that definitely shouldn’t have had beds in them somehow did.

I’ve absolutely no idea what my subconscious was trying to tell me, but I’m guessing after a month of sleeping in a tiny cabin, my brain has decided you can never have too many beds!

It’s funny the things you find yourself dreaming about after thirty-one days at sea.

For now, though, the dream will have to wait.

There’s another rowing shift to do.

Another few miles to tick off.

And one day closer to home.
