Date and time: Two day course 13th and 14th April 2025 Each day will start at 9am and finish by 5pm Payment: Full payment required at the time of booking Location: Aurora Sea school, Sea end house, Burnham on Crouch, Essex, CM0 8AN Previous Knowledge/Experience None essential but some boating experience is desirable. Some prior reading recommended if you have time. Age There is no minimum or maximum age limit. Achievement (certificate awarded and ability after the course) You will acquire some basic theoretical knowledge you need for safe navigation of a vessel in tidal waters and will be awarded an RYA certificate ‘Essential Navigation and Seamanship’ on successful completion. There is no assessment for this course. What’s included? RYA student pack comprising practice charts, Course Notes booklet, RYA Exercises. Tea coffee and water is included however food is not. This course will be run over 2 days. The course introduces the novice crew or aspiring skipper to a wide range of subjects needed to take a pleasure craft to sea. It introduces you to terminology, seamanship, safety and the Collision Regulations, navigation to find your way and plan your route and basic meteorology. This course introduces the skills necessary to: • Navigate in coastal waters • Identify the use and type of knots used in seamanship, types of construction, parts and equipment on yachts or motor cruisers • Be aware of safety equipment and procedures such as distress calls, use of flares, safety harnesses, life jackets and life rafts • Recognise action to be taken under the International Regulations for the Prevention of Collision at Sea • Find sources of weather information and act upon the information in the forecast We are really looking forward to welcoming you, and we hope that you have an enjoyable course.
