Course joining instructions

Date and time: Two day course 10th and 11th August 2024 Each day will start at 9am and finish by 5pm Payment: A 20% deposit will be required at the time of booking. If your course starts within 40 days you will be required to pay the full amount, Location: Aurora Sea school, Sea end house, Burnham on Crouch, Essex, CM0 8AN Previous Knowledge/Experience None essential but some boating experience is desirable. Some prior reading recommended if you have time. We do offer a Level 1 powerboat course if you would prefer to gain some knowledge before doing your level 2. Age Minimum age 12 years. Candidates between the age of 12 and 16 years will have their certificate endorsed accordingly. Please note if you are taking this course and intend to apply for an ICC (international certificate of competence), a Powerboat Level 2 certificate will allow you to do this on a Power boat up to 10m. If you intend on boating on the inland waterways of Europe, you will also need to have successfully passed a CEVNI test. For more information and to check the eligibility criteria please refer to the ICC application form on the RYA website. What’s included RYA Powerboat Logbook, loan of lifejacket. Tea, coffee and water is included however food is not. What will I need to bring? 1. Warm clothing- even if it is a warm day, it can get cold when travelling at planning speed. 2. Waterproof Jacket and trousers 3. Sunscreen and hat if it’s sunny 4. Notebook and pen 5. A passport size photo for your certificate Health and safety This course involves boarding and disembarking boats from pontoons. Please let us know in advance if you have any injury or illness that may be affected whilst on the course. Course Structures: This course will be run over 2 days from 0900hrs till 1700hrs both days. Please note that the cost of the course does not include refreshments. On day 2 we will potentially have lunch at one of a number of other locations as part of passage planning. This will be weather dependant and discussed on the morning of day 1 to ensure you are prepared for your course. This two-day course provides the skills and background knowledge needed to drive a powerboat and is the basis of the ICC. It focuses on low-speed close quarters handling, man overboard recovery, an introduction to driving at planing speed, Launching and recovery, securing to a buoy, anchoring, leaving and coming alongside, and collision regulations. The course will be taken on tidal waters.
