25th December – Christmas Day 🎄
(Covering the last 24 hours)
Happy Christmas! 🎅🏽
We quickly realised we hadn’t downloaded any Christmas songs… so naturally we made up our own. Quality questionable, enthusiasm high.
Last night we decorated Penny B with lights for Christmas Eve. We didn’t leave them on too late though — partly in case they attracted flying fish, and partly because we didn’t want passing ships to think we were a confused tanker out fishing in the middle of the Atlantic.
✨ Christmas Night at Sea
The night sky was absolutely incredible — clear, bright, and full of shooting stars. Or maybe Santa was doing a practice run. Hard to say.
This morning we took a rare half hour off the oars to open presents. There was a lot of chocolate involved. So much, in fact, that there’s a very real risk we’ll arrive in Antigua slightly bigger than when we left La Gomera.
Worth it.
🚣♀️ Back to Work
After the brief festive pause, it was straight back to the oars. We’ve got lighter winds forecast over the coming week, so we’re keen to bank as many miles as possible now.
Lighter winds will likely mean less daily mileage, but they do come with a few positives — calmer conditions make it easier to clean the boat, catch up on jobs, and there’s usually a better chance of spotting wildlife.
From both of us, wishing you all a very happy Christmas from on board Penny B, somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean.
