WE SAW DOLPHINS!! 🐬
I’m starting this blog completely back to front because the most exciting thing has just happened — literally in the last ten minutes.
A pod of dolphins appeared out of nowhere, riding the waves just behind the boat, effortlessly gliding through the water as if the ocean was theirs alone (which, of course, it is). They moved with that smooth, joyful energy that never fails to stop you in your tracks. Out here, moments like that feel incredibly special — a reminder that we’re guests in a much bigger world. I’m grinning from ear to ear as I write this.
🌞 A Break in the Grey
Yesterday the sun finally made an appearance — just enough to wash a few items and get them dry before sunset. Small wins mean a lot out here.
The night that followed, though, was wet and wild. Several waves soaked us on deck, and a couple hit hard enough to knock us clean out of our seats. It felt a bit like one of those superhero films where the hero puts their hand out towards the baddie without even touching them… and the baddie flies backwards and splats against the wall. That was us. Repeatedly.
There were brief gaps in the cloud where a few stars twinkled through, but mostly it was dark, wet, and very lively.
🧭 One Week Down
Today marks one full week since we left La Gomera. We’ve got 487 nautical miles on the log, which means we’ll hit the 500nm mark within the next ten hours. That feels like a proper milestone.
And it also means… Snack Day!
Once a week I restock snacks from the deck locker into the cabin so I don’t have to keep opening the deck hatch in rough weather. It means food and treats for the next week are safely within arm’s reach.
So far we’ve got:
🍍 Pineapple Friday
🧽 Scrub-Up Saturday
🥨 Snack Sunday
Honestly, I can’t wait to see what exciting tradition tomorrow brings!
🐦 Another Visitor
Another bird joined us this morning — noticeably bigger than the little swift-like ones we’ve seen before. I think it might be a storm petrel, skimming effortlessly over the waves.

Right — time to cook salmon and broccoli for breakfast.
Yes, really. 😂
Living the dream.
